SDCMS News You Can Use

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2024

Paul HegyiPHYSICIANS: Last week was Election Day, and while ballots are still being counted, California patients, physicians and other health care workers had a VERY successful day! Proposition 35, the top advocacy priority for both California Medical Association and San Diego County Medical Society, won an overwhelming victory with 67.5 percent of the statewide vote at last count.

CMA co–chaired the coalition that put Proposition 35 before the voters in order to provide a dedicated, ongoing source of funding to increase access to health care. The passage of Prop 35 is particularly important to improve access to health care for the nearly 15 million Californians, including half of the state’s children, who are covered by Medi–Cal. Prop 35 also will grow the health care workforce in California, which will improve access to care for all Californians.

In other notable election victories, San Diego’s own Dr. Akilah Weber, captured 63% of the vote to advance from the state Assembly to the California State Senate and Dr. Nina Chaya, one of SDCMS’ Leaders and a rising star in San Diego County also won 63% of the vote to be re–elected to the Tri–City Healthcare Board of Directors.
